Our mission.
Full Sun Compost is a community-centered composting company in the Wells Park neighborhood of Albuquerque, New Mexico. We collect and process local food waste, diverting it from landfills and transforming it into high-quality compost. We are committed to building practical, place-based infrastructure that curbs greenhouse gas emissions and supports long-term soil health in our community.
Our story.

Operating out of his carport, Brad Weikel launched a residential food scrap service under the name Little Green Bucket. Initially serving only Old Town and a few surrounding neighborhoods, Little Green Bucket would expand in waves over the next two years, until it’s service area included all of Albuquerque proper and most of the urban suburbs.
August 2019
We hired our first two drivers and our first washer, so our founder could rest his weary shoulders and catch up on his emails.

We hosted a pumpkin smash at the Downtown Growers Market, which brought in over 1000lbs of pumpkins. Since then we’ve allowed pumpkin dropoffs at our site every November, and we just love feeding them to goats, pigs, and compost piles.

We moved into our first “warehouse”, at 12th & Mountain, where we would stay for over 6 years.

February 2023
Cheese wandered in and demanded a job, so we appointed him head of security and pest control. Shortly after we hired Beans, to reign in his weekend overtime hours.
March 2023
We launched our commercial collection service, which quickly increased our weekly food waste haul by 400%.

October 2024
We broke ties with our former partner facility, due to long-standing operational challenges and divergent values. We declared a “compost emergency” and asked our community for support… and wow, did they answer.

March 2025
We launched our Full Sun Acceleration Bonds program, raising roughly $260k in small investments from the community.
Halloween 2025
We purchased our current headquarters in Wells Park and began preparing to launch our own compost yard.

January 31 2026
We welcomed our investors and community to our new yard for a ribbon cutting event. Together we started “Mother”, our permanent pile that we use to inoculate each new compost batch.

February 2026
We opened our compost yard to the public and officially unveiled our new name, Full Sun Compost!

Coming Soon
We hope to have 3rd party compost for sale in March, and our own compost for sale a few months after that.
