Our Community Pledge

Full Sun Compost grew out of a simple idea: that food waste should stay in the communities where it’s generated and return to the soils that sustain them. What began as neighbors helping neighbors compost one household at a time has grown—through years of community support—into a community-wide effort to build lasting composting infrastructure. Composting is one of the most practical climate and soil solutions available to cities, but it only works when it’s rooted in local relationships. We believe a compost facility should be accountable to the community that feeds it.

This pledge reflects the commitments we make to the people and land around us.

We acknowledge these lands and their stewards.

Full Sun Compost operates on the traditional lands of the Tiwa people. We recognize and honor the Indigenous communities who have stewarded these lands since time immemorial. We offer this acknowledgement with respect for Indigenous sovereignty and a commitment to building systems that care for the land and support the long-term health of this place.

We prioritize local materials

Full Sun Compost is built around local inputs. We focus on food waste, yard waste, and arborist materials generated in our region. Keeping organic resources circulating locally reduces transportation impacts and ensures the benefits of compost stay in our community.

We operate transparently

Composting is infrastructure, and infrastructure should be understandable. We aim to be open about how our systems work, what goes into our compost, and how we manage materials on site. We welcome questions from neighbors, customers, and partners.

We build for the long term

Our facility is designed to support Albuquerque’s composting needs for years to come. That means investing in responsible processing methods, maintaining clean and organized operations, and continually improving our practices as we grow.

We support community-scale solutions

Full Sun Compost works alongside residents, schools, restaurants, farms, and local organizations to expand organic waste diversion. Composting should be accessible to the whole community, not limited to large institutions.

We treat compost as a living resource

Composting is not just waste management—it’s also soil building. We work to produce high-quality compost that supports soil health, water retention, and resilient landscapes throughout New Mexico.

We respect our neighbors

A compost facility should be a good neighbor. We are committed to maintaining a safe, clean, and respectful operation for the Wells Park neighborhood and the surrounding community.

We believe in practical climate action

Composting reduces methane emissions from landfills and rebuilds soil carbon at the same time. We see this work as one small but meaningful part of building a more sustainable society.

Full Sun Compost is a community-centered compost facility in the Wells Park neighborhood of Albuquerque. Thank you for helping us build a more circular local system for food and soil.
