100 pounds then. Tons now.
During our 2018 pilot, we collected about 100 pounds of food scraps per week while operating out of an Old Town carport. Today, we’re processing about 10 tons of food waste per week at our compost yard in Wells Park.
With your help, we’ve diverted over 3 million pounds of food waste away from the landfill!
Good things that didn’t go to waste.
20 yards of compost donated to local schools and non-profits.
And we’re just getting started….
10+ tons of pumpkins rescued and upcycled.
Every November we collect pumpkins that would otherwise go the landfill. Some go to kid-focused smash parties. Some are taken by the community for their chickens and backyard livestock About half are hauled to area farms for goats and pigs. The rest are composted.
7,000 pounds of onions rescued and distributed in a single weekend.
Sometimes keeping food out of the compost pile is the better outcome, especially when it means helping out our neighbors.
Two cats adopted and one nurtured.
Beans and Cheese now oversee pest control, security, and whatever else catches their interest. Sonia Tortilla patrolled the perimeter at our old building for nearly two years, and received many treats, but opted not to move to our new location.
Five dogs helped along the way.
Our crew safely scooped up Crackers, Princess Crackers, Frick, Frack, and Diesel and made sure they either made it home or found a new home. Our collection vehicles are always equipped with a leash, just in case.
More to count. More to share.
We’re building a new data publishing system to provide dynamic reporting on food waste diverted, households served, buckets collected, and more. We’ll also report the water, electricity, gasoline, and natural gas our operations use, alongside any environmental offsets and how they’re calculated.
